The History of the Magazine’s Creation

The desire and need to have a spiritually edifying informational magazine in the Pacific Coast Slavic Baptist Association had been cherished for many years. Pastor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Tsvirinko invested a great deal of effort in this direction. While serving as Chairman of the Association, he established two magazines: “Vestnik Ob’yedineniya” (Herald of the Association), which published spiritually edifying material and was overseen by Adolf Pikhay, and “Nasha Zhizn” (Our Life), which covered the life of the Association and contained informational material. This magazine was overseen by Valentin Erisov.

However, the problem was that these magazines were not published regularly, while Christians had become accustomed to reading them and desired to continue doing so. In 2004, after one of the meetings held at a church in West Sacramento, the leader of the Association, Pastor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Tsvirinko, suggested that Oleg Bogdanovich Bubnyak create a full-fledged Christian magazine. However, citing his busy schedule, Brother Oleg declined.

Years passed and leaders changed. Pastor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Tsvirinko was succeeded as Chairman of the Association by Pastor Nikolai Alekseyevich Bugriev. Changes also took place in the ministry of Oleg Bogdanovich Bubnyak, and in the summer of 2007, having experience in publishing, he quickly assembled a team and began work on producing the magazine.

While creating the magazine, the team had to resolve many different issues: design, selection of the color scheme, choosing spiritually edifying and informational materials, forming regular sections, and so on. The most important decision was determining the magazine’s name. As the saying goes, “As you name the ship, so it will sail.”

Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Tsvirinko advised looking through the archives of the Pacific Association. While studying the archives, they discovered a record in the minutes of the 5th Congress stating that the publication of a bulletin titled “God’s Vineyard” should be continued. Unfortunately, history does not record when the bulletin called “God’s Vineyard” was originally created, who was responsible for publishing it, or when and why this work ceased. However, it became clear that even at the dawn of the formation of the Pacific Association of Slavic Evangelical Baptist churches, there were ministers in the churches who understood and valued the power of the printed word. After a report by Oleg Bogdanovich Bubnyak, the Association Committee decided to name the magazine “God’s Vineyard”, thus continuing the work of our predecessors—brothers and sisters—and extending this ministry.

The first issue of the magazine “God’s Vineyard” was released for the next Congress of the Association in October 2007. The Lord continues to bless His people to this day, sending people with new creative ideas, materials, financial support, as well as those whose hearts are filled with prayers for the blessing of Christ’s church in all its ministries.

For many years, Brother Oleg Bubnyak faithfully labored over the publication of the magazine. Together with his editorial team—Lyubov Pavlyuk, Elena Chepilka, Irina Kostikova, Natalia Gurmeza, and Andrey Lukashov—he did wonderful work that brought joy to Christians in many churches. In 2020, Lyubov Pavlyuk replaced him as editor, and with her arrival the editorial board was also renewed. The current editorial team consists of A. Pronin, I. Mileev, L. Pavlyuk, I. Karkhut, N. Gurmeza, M. Cherenkov, P. Nesmeyanov, and M. Kitsen.

The magazine needs prayer and financial support. Donations for the publication of the magazine, marked “God’s Vineyard,” may be sent to the editorial office address (see below).
